IFTA License

Who is Required to Report IFTA?
IFTA is required for any vehicle crossing state lines with a GVW/GVWR of 26,001 lbs or more, or if you have a power unit with 3 or more axles you are required to have an IFTA License and report quarterly the miles you operate in each state and the fuel gallons you purchase in each state.

Who is Required to Register with DMV?
A commercial vehicle is a vehicle required to be registered with DMV and wich is used or maintained for the transportation of persons for hire, compensation, or profit, used, or maintained primarily for the transportation of property.

FORM 2290 - road tax

Who is required to report Form 2290?

Anyone who registers a heavy highway motor vehicle in their name with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more must file Form 2290 and pay the tax. Truckers should report and pay form 2290 Heavy Vehicle Use Tax for their taxable vehicles every year.

BOC-3 form

What is the purpose of Form BOC-3?
A BOC-3 Filing (”Designation of Agents for Service of Process”) is a federal filing in the United States that assigns a process agent to accept legal documents on behalf of a transportation or logistics company in each state in which the company is authorized to do business. BOC stands for ”Blanket of Coverage”, and the BOC-3 is a form you must file to give the FMCSA proof that you have a process agent in each state.

UCR permit program

What is UCR?
The Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) is a Federally Mandated Program. The UCR Act states that individuals or companies involved in interstate travel may pay an annual registration fee based on the total number of vehicles in their fleet. Notice: The 2023 registration period will open on October 1, 2022. According to UCR Board policy, enforcement for the 20223 registration year is recommended to begin on January 1, 2023.

What is a USDOT Number?
Companies that operate commercial vehicles transporting passengers or hauling cargo in interstate commerce must be registered with the FMCSA and must have a USDOT Number. The USDOT Number serve as a unique identifier when collecting and monitoring a company’s safety information acquired during audits, compliance reviews, crash investigations, and inspections. Being that the USDOT Number is required based on your total weight (carriers transporting goods/freight) or the number of passengers you are transporting (passenger carriers – limo service, bus company, passenger van, etc) it doesn’t matter if you are a private carrier or a for-hire carrier, the US Department of Transportation requires that you obtain a USDOT Number. Depending on your classification, it is easy to make a selection on the application for a USDOT Number that is incorrect or that does not actually apply to you that will end up costing you more money than initially needed. This may also add requirements that you are not actually required to meet.

What is an MC Authority?
MC Authority is a number assigned by the FMCSA to identify a carrier operating for hire and transporting regulated commodities in interstate commerce. This MC number is also known as an operating authority or trucking authority. When you apply for operating authority your MC Number is issued right away, however, you are automatically put in a ten day waiting period.  For trucking companies/owner-operators, as long as your application has been submitted correctly, you should expect your authority to be granted within two to four weeks from the date your MC Number is assigned. Being that the application process is no simple task the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) receives numerous applications each day with mistakes that can cause the process to possibly take months to be activated due to any corrections that may need to be made.  We can get your MC Number (ICC#) issued the same day you send us your information and can guarantee that your information is submitted correctly.

What is the DOT ClearingHouse?
The ClearingHouse is a secure online database that gives employers, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), State Driver Licensing Agencies (SDLA), and State law enforcement personnel real-time information about commercial driver’s license (CDL) and commercial learner’s permit (CLP) holders’ drug and alcohol program violations. As required in the Clearinghouse-II final rule, beginning November 18, 2024, State Driver Licensing Agencies (SDLAs) must query the Clearinghouse before issuing, renewing, upgrading, or transferring CDLs and CLPs, and must review a driver’s information when notified by the Clearinghouse of a status change. SDLAs will be required to remove the CDL or CLP privilege from the driver’s license of an individual subject to the CMV driving prohibition, which would result in a downgrade of the license until the driver complies with the return-to-duty (RTD) requirements.

Who Needs a CA CHP Number?

The California government demands that all commercial vehicles must have a CA Number. This applies as long as the GVW exceeds 10,000 pounds. The official name of the number is the California Motor Vehicle Permit Number. The CA Number must get displayed on vehicles using permanent lettering. The number gets issued through the  California Highway Patrol and is required by CVC Section 34620.
